Dr. Paavan Gorur was born in India\u00a0and lives in the United Kingdom now.\u00a0During the MARS2013 mission he is the\u00a0doctor for the field crew in Morocco. His\u00a0main role is to maintain the safety of the\u00a0team. In addition, he is involved in the\u00a0COMPSTRESS study taking place in the\u00a0simulation.<\/p>\n

Space & MARS2013<\/h2>\n

How did you first get in touch with the topic of space \/ astronomy \/ analog research?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I first became attracted to space medicine\u00a0during my medical studies where I did\u00a0an additional BSc in physiology looking<\/em>\u00a0at physiology in space and extreme\u00a0environments. Last year, I pursued an MSc\u00a0in Space Physiology and Health including\u00a0a research project at the University of Graz,\u00a0doing life science research.<\/em><\/p>\n

When did you first hear about the Austrian Space Forum (OeWF)?<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was through my Research project\u00a0supervisor at the University of Graz.<\/em><\/p>\n

How did you learn about the \u201cMARS2013\u201d mission?<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was through my Research project\u00a0supervisor at the University of Graz. He\u00a0encouraged me to apply.<\/p>\n

Why did you choose to participate? <\/strong><\/p>\n

My interest in space life science research is\u00a0deep and I hope to forge a career in research\u00a0I this area alongside my clinical duties. I\u00a0feel that this experience will be brilliant at\u00a0preparing me for this.<\/em><\/p>\n

What was your first impression when you got involved with the OeWF team? \u00a0 \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Everyone was very professional and\u00a0welcoming.<\/em><\/p>\n

What is your personal goal in this mission?<\/strong><\/p>\n

My personal goal of this mission is to further\u00a0immerse myself in the world of space life\u00a0science. I hope to get to know like-minded\u00a0people with different backgrounds all\u00a0aiming to play a part in future manned space\u00a0exploration.<\/em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Work, Life & Family<\/h2>\n

What I do for a living:<\/strong><\/p>\n

I am a doctor working as an anaesthetist.<\/em><\/p>\n

A typical day in my life looks like this:<\/strong><\/p>\n

An early start to the day with a strong cup\u00a0of coffee! I get to the hospital at 7:30 and\u00a0begin my anesthetic duties. This includes anaesthetizing patients for operations and dealing with medical emergencies in the hospital. Every day is different and unpredictable, which keeps things interesting and often far from typical<\/em>!<\/p>\n

This is how I spend my spare time:<\/strong><\/p>\n

I like to relax and spend time with my\u00a0family. I am a huge movie fan and probably spend too much time (and money!) at<\/em>\u00a0the cinema. I enjoy reading biographies,\u00a0inspiration can really be found in the stories\u00a0of the famous!<\/em><\/p>\n

Family status:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Married.<\/em><\/p>\n

How my friends would describe me:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Enthusiastic, ambitious and caring.<\/em><\/p>\n

What is the most unusual \/ challenging \/ exciting \/ scary \/ funny thing you ever experienced?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I played the lead role in a show at university,\u00a0which included singing to a crowd of more\u00a0than 500 people. I am not a natural singer,\u00a0believe me, but the crowd saw trough that\u00a0and enjoyed the humour in my performance.\u00a0I would say that this was a scary and also\u00a0funny experience!<\/em><\/p>\n

Something I would love to learn or achieve:<\/strong><\/p>\n

I would love to learn how to fly a plane<\/em>.<\/p>\n
