Rio Tinto is a river in the South of Spain which is flowing through the region of Andalucia. The river discharges about 100 km from the city Huelva into the Atlantic Ocean. <\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_659\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/oewf.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/Site2_B.jpg\" class=\"fancybox\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-659\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-659\" title=\"Rio Tinto test site\" src=\"https:\/\/oewf.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/Site2_B-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Rio Tinto test site\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/oewf.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/Site2_B-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/oewf.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/Site2_B-600x450.jpg 600w, https:\/\/oewf.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/Site2_B.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-659\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Rio Tinto test site<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Well now we have:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Aouda-X\u2026 a space suit simulator, which is waiting for its biggest, longest and most adventurous field-test.<\/li>\n<li>the MCC.. a well- rehearsed team controlling the mission in the Mission Control Center.<\/li>\n<li>Operations\u2026 a group of people supporting the suit- tester during its EVAs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>But also a place on earth, which is as similar to Mars as possible, is necessary.<br \/>\nFor accomplishing this Mars- Analogue- mission we need an area whose geology, soil structure, etc. is similar to the conditions on Mars.<br \/>\n<div id=\"attachment_660\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/oewf.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/Site2_A.jpg\" class=\"fancybox\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-660\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-660 \" title=\"Rio Tinto test site\" src=\"https:\/\/oewf.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/Site2_A-300x178.jpg\" alt=\"Rio Tinto test site\" width=\"300\" height=\"178\" srcset=\"https:\/\/oewf.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/Site2_A-300x178.jpg 300w, https:\/\/oewf.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/Site2_A-600x356.jpg 600w, https:\/\/oewf.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/Site2_A.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-660\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Rio Tinto test site<\/p><\/div>\nSo we started looking after an arid and cold place with red sand and red hills.<br \/>\nConcerning the low temperatures the Arctic would be suitable, of course. Because of this reason this will be the destination of our next field test.<br \/>\nBut for this simulation we also wanted a comfortable transportation logistics and so we kept on searching and finally finished, when we found the semi- desert Rio Tinto in the Southwest of Spain, the most mars- similar place in Continental Europe.<br \/>\nThere we are expecting temperatures between 10 and 20\u00b0C and a very arid landscape, which provides a sandy on the one hand, but also a rocky surface on the other hand.<br \/>\nThe fact that there are no plants offers the best conditions for our forthcoming expedition.<\/p>\n<p>The countdown has started: <strong>T-10 h <\/strong> until the Rio Tinto field crew leaves for Spain. <\/p>\n<h2>Our prepartions for Rio Tinto<\/h2>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/WjSv6432JdI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; encrypted-media\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>So what is Rio Tinto and where is it?
