2017
My name is Filippo, I am Greek/Italian but was born and raised in Vienna, Austria. When I learned about the OeWF online, I was stoked that my home country was actively engaged in the space effort. I have always wanted to be part of, and to aid in, the effort of human space exploration, so when I saw that I had an opportunity to actively involve myself I instantly wrote the OeWF and now I am here!
Before I even started I was already a bit nervous to join the Austrian Space Forum for my internship. But upon my first introduction I realized my nervousness was unnecessary. On my first day I was given a very warm welcome and a tour through the office and space suit laboratory. I was then given the task to familiarize myself with the OeWF corporate design identity.
After this I was assigned a quite important task: writing the Press announcement for AMADEE-18. I was scared to do something wrong since this was an official document but I was happy to see that I would actually do some meaningful work in my time here. Throughout the process of writing it I received a lot of feedback from everyone around me. I appreciated the feedback very much since I am quite new to this environment and saw it as a good opportunity to learn and improve.
At the moment, I am working on the AMADEE-18 Press kit and am in contact with many of the people responsible for the experiments that will be conducted on the Oman mission. I am responsible for keeping in contact with them, and many other communications related tasks.
All in all I am enjoying my time at the OeWF a lot, I feel very welcome here and I am given real responsibilities. I have learned a lot through my interaction with people here and seeing how things work when it’s in practice and not just in theory. I feel a lot more confident about what I am doing and what I want to do in the future now. The people I work with are very like-minded and fun to work around.
My time in Innsbruck has been very nice. Innsbruck is a beautiful city surrounded by majestic mountains so it offers a lot of activities whether you like hiking, biking or just lounging. The city is small but it offers a very nice atmosphere.
