News update: Busy days on Mars (and Earth)

It’s been one week since our last news update from the AMADEE18 mission and a lot has happened during that time. Here is our recap from last week’s events.

On Mars, our field crew has been very active performing extravehicular activities (EVAs) and conducting experiments. In this picture, analog astronaut João Lousada is collecting a sample from the Dhofar desert using a container which has been created with a 3D printer as part of the A3DPT experiment.

Some experiments require the analog astronauts to cover long distances, for which they use their quads. In the 360° video below, you can have a look at the Dhofar desert yourself:

Back at the Mission Support Center (MSC) in Innsbruck, we have been busy as well. On Saturday, we were visited by Dr. Insa Thiele-Eich and Dr. Suzanna Randall of the initiative #DieAstronautin, who are currently training to become the first female German astronauts. They were excited to learn about AMADEE18 and we gladly welcomed them here at the MSC.

Last Thursday, we broadcasted a livestream in which one of our flight directors, Reinhard Tlustos, talked about the mission and explained the workings of the MSC. Watch it below!

Finally, since there is way too little time and space on our homepage and social media channels to promote all of the great pictures that our amazing photographers take during AMADEE18, we regularly upload them to our Flickr account instead. Take a look!

That’s it for this week’s update! Tomorrow, we will be back with more news from #AMADEE18. Make sure to follow the action via our social media channels.
